US Young Renegades Tour update
Jack recently gave a phone interview to The Times Online before their upcoming show at Stage AE in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

PITTSBURGH -- Feeling nostalgic now that they've all reached the age of 29, All Time Low will play outdoors at Stage AE on Tuesday -- the pop-punk band's fourth visit there in four years.
All Time Low will feature tracks from its new album, "The Last Renegade," with lyrical themes prompted by wide-eyed wonder turning to wisdom.
"Our last album was pretty much us coming from the perspective of still being young. This one is kind of more nostalgic," lead guitarist Jack Barakat said in a phone interview last Tuesday. "We're kind of thinking about when we were younger, and how we felt; that teen angst and everything.
"It's a bit of a darker direction," Barakat said. "It's dark but palatable."
All Time Low singer Alex Gaskarth has said the deaths of Prince, David Bowie and George Michael, and watching TV shows like Netflix's "Stranger Things," stirred up childhood memories that influenced the lyrics on "Last Young Renegade," released in June.
The single, "Dirty Laundry," logged over 2 million Spotify streams in one week, showcasing the group’s progression toward a more mature pop sound. The lyrics are about leaving the past where it belongs, and appreciating that we all have a dark side and that scars from the past give us character.
The "Last Young Renegade" title track further embellishes that theme by establishing a bit of a concept character threaded throughout the album.
It's something touched upon with subtlety in the stage elements of this tour.
"The shows are very visual," Barakat said. "We thought it was really important to have a visual aspect to this tour, with videos and mood lighting and artwork all kind of rolling together, replicating that theme."
Which isn't to say that All Time Low has turned into a super-serious band.
Local fans can still expect to see fans invited on stage to sing along with 2011's "Time Bomb."
"It's nice to give the crowd a little attention like that," Barakat said.
And for some fans, it won't quite feel like an All Time Low show unless there's some juvenile humor from the band. Barakat has been known to attach to his mic stand bras tossed on stage by female fans.
A docile crowd isn't likely Tuesday.
"I have pretty high expectations for Pittsburgh," Barakat said.
The Baltimore band can't help feeling extra nostalgic when visiting Pittsburgh.
"I have tons of memories of Pittsburgh," Barakat said. "I dated a girl from there once, and my best friend went to Duquesne so I spent a lot of time in the city. Besides the obvious sports rivalry, it's always seemed like a super up-and-coming city where the people like to have fun. We know we'll always have a good time during the show in Pittsburgh, and maybe before it and after it. I've spent a lot of nights wandering down East Carson Street, and I remember most of them."
All Time Low launched the 2013 outdoor concert season in Pittsburgh on an unseasonably chilly April night where gloves and ski caps were a smart strategy.
"At the time we planned that show we thought it would be warm, though that was totally fun," Barakat said. "But I do remember thinking this is a little too cold for an outdoor show."
All Time Low is riding a hot streak, having launched last Monday's Alternative Press Music Awards in Cleveland with a spirited performance of "Good Time."
The APMAs were a who's who of pop-punk and youth-oriented alt-rock, with featured performers including New Years Day, Plain White T's, the Pretty Reckless, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Dance Gavin Dance and Sleeping with Sirens.
Barakat enjoyed being more of a spectator at this year's APMAs after he and Gaskarth had emceed the award show's two previous years.
"This year was a lot less stressful," Barakat said.
All Time Low's APMAs selection, "Good Times," has a cinematic quality that should resonate with Pittsburgh fans packed inside Stage AE.
The general fan base has been on board with the group's new direction.
"The fans are getting older, as we are, and they're going through the same things as we did, which is really cool," Barakat said. "A lot of our fans are like 25 and 26 now, which is crazy."
Most will get there in time for what Barakat hails as a "super cool" lineup of opening acts -- The Wrecks, APME performers Waterparks and SWMRS.
"The Wrecks are this young band with a lot of energy which I really like. You always want the opening band to have a lot of energy to get everyone excited," Barakat said. "Waterparks are part of the new scene. They're popular boys and the girls are loving them, which is always nice. SWMRS are a great young band. I'm a big fan of their music.
"I'm excited we're headed back to (Stage) AE," Barakat said. "I like the way it's laid out and how nice it is to play outdoors there near the river. We're super stoked. I like looking at Heinz Field. Though there's a rivalry, I can appreciate it as a football fan."
